FAQ's

What is A2P/10DLC?

  • A2P 10DLC refers to a system in the United States that allows businesses to send Application-to-Person (A2P) type messaging via standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. A2P 10DLC is designed to increase trust across the messaging ecosystem. One part of creating this trust in SMS messaging relates to the registration of a business or individual to provide transparency about who is sending messages and what types of messages they are sending.

THIS IS A REQUIREMENT IN THE UNITED STATES

  • PS, A2P/10DLC is not specific to CRMX. This is enforced by the United States on every current and future business/individual using an external phone number. Any business that uses a CRM and has a phone number through the CRM to text must register for A2P/10DLC. Meaning, there is no avoiding this. But don't worry, this is quick and easy! easy!

Why is A2P/10DLC Being Enforced?

  • A2P/10DLC is the standard that United States telecom carriers have put in place to ensure that SMS traffic to US end-users through long-code phone numbers is verified and consensual.

Due to the increase in spam messages, many consumers have lost trust in SMS as a form of communication. US A2P 10DLC is the standard that carriers have implemented in the US to regulate this communication pathway.

A2P 10DLC improves the end-user experience by ensuring that people can opt in and out of messaging and know who is sending them messages. It also benefits businesses, offering them higher messaging throughput, brand awareness, and accountability.

What if I’m an individual operating under a company, but not the owner?

  • That’s ok! Just follow the first video in this tutorial.

Who collects on the registration fees?

  • The Campaign Registry (TCR). The Campaign Registry is an entity created by mobile network operators called MNOs. These MNOs include carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

Sole Prop Brand Registration vs Low-Volume Brand Registration (Business with EIN Number)

Sole Prop Brand Registration Low-Volume Brand Registration
  • EIN not required for registration
  • Only 1 Phone Number permitted
  • Up to 3000 segments per day (A segment is a text with 160 characters or less)
  • $4.41 - One Time Registration
  • EIN required for registration
  • More than 1 Phone Number permitted
  • Up to 6000 segments per day (A segment is a text with 160 characters or less)
  • $4.41 - One Time Registration

What happens if I do not register for A2P/10DLC?

  • Effective July 5, 2023, all 10DLC phone numbers used to send SMS and MMS messages to U.S. phone numbers must be fully registered to an approved campaign under your brand. Messages sent using unregistered phone numbers will be subject to a gradual increase of message blocking by Twilio, beginning on July 5, 2023, ultimately leading to a full block of all unregistered U.S.-bound messages sent after August 31, 2023.
